Lake Martin Hospice : Volunteers
Qualifications
Potential volunteers should complete an application, an interview and a training program based upon the type of service opportunity desired. Potential volunteers should demonstrate the ability to be sensitive to the patient/family needs and the goals of Lake Martin Hospice. Once selected, volunteers will be asked to make a commitment of a minimum of 2 hours a week if needed. Volunteers will report to the designated coordinator of the Volunteer Program.
Major Duties
Every person is blessed with unique gifts and abilities. Volunteers will explore and be matched where their talent and abilities will be needed and most effective. Some of the service areas include:
- Administration - office/clerical duties
- Spiritual and Bereavement Support - under the direction of the Spiritual/Bereavement Counselor or Volunteer Coordinator
- Errands & Transportation - for the provision of highly needed services such as delivering supplies, grocery shopping, or a ride to the doctor's office, etc.
- Patient Care - helping with child care, lawn & home maintenance, preparing meals, reading to the patient, writing letters, caring for pets, preparing income tax returns, patient hair cuts and manicures (if licensed), etc.
- Fund Raising - participating in planting and raising funds to benefit special needs of patients, granting "wishes", and assisting the Hospice in providing care to those without the resources for paid Hospice care.
